I hope you had a fantastic weekend. I sure did and I am suffering sleep deprivation consequences lol, but it was worth it. The following song comes from my weekend…
I went to Philadelphia this weekend with my dance team, New Jersey Touch, for the Philly Bachatafest to perform and just enjoy the festivities. When I arrived, I had to go the tech rehearsal to run through our performance on stage. While waiting to be called up, one couple that danced Zouk did a performance to Alex Clare’s “Up All Night.”
When I heard the song, I whipped out my phone and Shazamed it. I was really feeling the song! First things first, the beat is just fire; it’s extremely innovative. I don’t know enough about Alex Clare to know his musical tendencies, besides what I heard from “Too Close.” The song starts with a deep electric guitar beat that persists throughout the song. At first, I didn’t know what to expect. Then, he started singing and the drum beat came about. I was thinking, “What a perfect combination of sounds!” The song is a combination of what seems to be Rock, Hip-Hop, Pop, and I guess Zouk, as the dance performed to “Up All Night” was a Zouk performance.
I like to look into the songs I write about so that I can speak more astutely about them. I discovered that Diplo and Switch from Major Lazer helped produce this song. Once I saw that, the drum beat made perfect sense to me. I LOVE the drums!
I was so busy with my event this weekend that I barely slept. Even though the song is about staying up all night doing God knows what behind someone’s back, I was up all night. Thus, the song relates lol. And towards the end of the song, Alex Clare repeatedly says, “When I get myself home to my bedroom, I’m gonna sleep all day till the sun sets.” It’s like he quoted exactly how I felt. I will be catching up on sleep the rest of the week.
So overall, I really like this song. It’s clever and a little daring, as the lyrics and beat resemble that. This song isn’t new, but I’m glad I heard it now. I’ve been listening to it all day long. I hope you guys enjoy it and I will be posting very soon, as I have a good amount of stuff to write about!
