“This Could Be Us, But You Playing”

The title of this post represents a meme that caught social media by storm during the earlier part of the year. It is also the foundation of a very catchy song that I am going to post about today!

Doug Locke’s “This Could Be Us” is good for a few reasons. It has that Indie/Pop sound that just screams summer. Even though the summer is ending, this song would make someone feel that summer is just beginning; at least it makes me feel that way. In the video, they are in California and at the beach having a good time; so that also makes it feel like a summer song lol. If this song were released a few months earlier, this song may have been on the radio by now. It remains pretty low key and underground for now. However, when I first listened to the song this morning on YouTube, there were only about 5,000 views. Now, it is nearing 100,000 very quickly!

I can see where the popularity is coming from. The Huffington Post and other media avenues have written articles about the song and the video that corresponds with “This Could Be Us.” I first came across the song via the Huffington Post article that I saw on my Facebook News Feed. The song is about super catchy and happy, even though it’s about love that isn’t realized. I really like the song, but I think the video speaks volumes! In the video, the same couple is portrayed as young people and as older men 45 years later. First of all, I think it’s great that they are shown as an interracial gay couple and are shown in a positive light. They had a fling in the past and the black man could not let go of what could have been. Watch the video to see how it all plays out! It will definitely capture your attention.

“This Could Be Us” is a catchy song with a video that could have broken ground in mainstream society. I have been watching the video over and over again and I admittedly do sit there wishing it could work out between them…but one of them is playing! And I feel that we all have been there at some point in our life; where there was one person that we wonder what could have been if the relationship had escalated to a level it could have gotten to. It’s a nice song! Check it out!

“Confess To Me” Your Love For This Song After Checking It Out

Happy Thursday everyone! (And Friday to those in the Eastern part of the world)

Today’s post is easy for me to write because I LOVE the song that I am about to share with you! There are some songs that are made that just get to me due to their melodious brilliances. “Confess To Me” by Disclosure ft. Jessie Ware is one of those songs.

For those of you have followed me from the start, this is the third Disclosure song or remix I have posted about. That should give you the impression that I absolutely love them, which I do! I am a huge fan of them. Their album “Settle” is absolutely incredible. But I guess I am not the best of fans, because I completely overlooked this song as I was fascinated by five other songs on the album. My brother played this song for me last week and I had to stop everything I was doing because “Confess To Me” grabbed my attention.

I love Disclosure’s unique beats and innovative sounds as it pertains to House music. They have really created a sound of their own that others can only replicate; they are true trend-setters. “Latch” is an example of an awesome song with a beat uncharacteristic to what we are used to. “Confess To Me” is exactly the same. Jessie Ware is a talented artist and combined with an absolutely awesome beat and beat drop, a dynamite track was born. I swear I go half crazy when the beat drops in this song. My world becomes a disco in an instant when this track comes on.

Do yourself a favor and check this song out NOW! If you like individualism, creativity, and being compelled to dance, this is for you!

At this rate, I’ll see you guys next week! Stay beautiful out there!

This Song Will Make You Want To Play Video Games

What it do, peeps?

For the first time, I’m back with a SECOND post in ONE day! I have time to share my stuff with you guys, so why not?

I didn’t think much of “Little Games (St. Lucia Remix)” by The Colourist the first couple of times I heard this; but then I grew to love it over time. I first heard this song in a video game that I play: FIFA 14. I don’t play video games much, but when I do, I play FIFA. Besides the fact that it’s probably the greatest game series ever, the soundtrack always has some great music! There are one or two mainstream songs in the game but there are also songs that you would never know about if you didn’t play the game or didn’t seriously follow certain music.

This is the third song that St. Lucia has been a part of that I have really enjoyed. Therefore, I can say that I am a St. Lucia fan. I love the steady, alternative beat of the song. Also, I enjoy the lyrics because they are pertinent to many people. To all of you that beat around the push and play games–especially with peoples’ hearts–stop it. It’s not right, and The Colourist reiterates that in a beautiful collaboration with St. Lucia.

It is a nice, alternative, chill change of pace from what I normally listen to and I love it. I hope you enjoy it, also! Stay classy and honest out there!

Lip Syncing This Song Got Me A Friend and An Applebee’s Giftcard

Happy last day of February to all of you!

So some of you may recognize this song, “After Tonight” by Justin Nozuka. If you do, great! Enjoy it again! If not, come along for the ride!

I was stretching in the gym today when this song came on my iPod. I thought that this would be a great song to post about. It is also a mild mannered break from more of the upbeat music I have posted. Before I talk about the ins and outs of the song, here’s a quick story:

I was introduced to this song by my friend, Mike, who loves soulful, alternative music with an acoustic guitar and good vocals. This song came onto his computer while we sat in his room singing and playing along to different songs. When I heard “After Tonight,” I was hooked. I love Justin Nozuka’s high pitched voice and I liked the melody of the guitar. I couldn’t stop listening to this song for months; I spent a whole semester obsessed with this song.

One night, my dorm had a Lip Syncing Contest. I was more shy back then, but I agreed to participate mainly because Mike put the program together and I didn’t want to let him down. (There weren’t may participants.) I decided to lip sync this song for the contest. I came in second place and won an Applebee’s gift card lol; which I forgot I had until a year later, when I actually used it.

Three years later, during my senior year in college, one of the RA’s (Resident Assistant’s) on my staff said that she recognized me from when I lip synced this song our freshman year! First of all, it’s a sin that we lived in the same dorm and it took this to bring us together, (Better late than never, I guess.) Secondly, she told me that the first time she heard “After Tonight” was that night and she loved it since then!

I think that this song is cute, to be honest. It’s a nice song about how he is telling a girl (or guy–to make it gender neutral) that he can show them whatever it is that they desire. The melody is catchy and the lyrics are simple but clever. I used to sing this all the time. I wanted to learn how to play the acoustic guitar because of this song. Although I don’t listen to this song nearly as much as I once did, “After Tonight” will always have a special place with me. I still enjoy listening to it after all this time. I know I will always love it.

Hope you guys enjoy the song and the story that comes with it! Keep your eyes peeled for more songs soon!

Stay warm,
Dean
